The Board of Cricket Control India is discussing plans which would allow IPL Teams an opportunity to retain 4 Indian and 3 Foreign players before the auction for IPL 2011.
IPL 2010 Auction is will be held on 19 January in Mumbai by the IPL committe to add new players for season 3.
With 2 new franchises and the current player contracts ending after IPL 2010 the auction for Indian Premier League 4.0 was planned to involve every player from the first auction.
The team owners were unhappy about re auction of players and the prospect of losing some of their key team players and the Chennai Super Kings owner and BCCI secretary N Srinivsan had reportedly voiced his objection to the proposal earlier last month.
The Chennai Team had built their team and brand around Mahendra Singh Dhoni and they would stand to lose their identity and money invested if MS Dhoni was involved in the auction.
Therefore plans are discussed by the BCCI which will allow the teams to resign the main players to a new 3 year deal with a 15% increase in earnings.
“Some of the teams are too attached to the players and would not want to let them go at any cost. It will be interesting to see how many top players are listed for the auction. IPL Players consent is also important” said an BCCI insider.
